What Are The Causes Of Infection
There are many causes of infection, but most can be grouped into four main categories: bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Each type of organism can cause a different type of infection, and each requires its own unique treatment.
Bacteria are single-celled organisms that can reproduce quickly, making them one of the most common causes of infection. Many types of bacteria are actually beneficial to the body, but some can cause disease. Common bacterial infections include strep throat, tuberculosis, and pneumonia.
Viruses are much smaller than bacteria, and they can only reproduce inside the cells of another organism. Viruses cause a wide range of diseases, from the common cold to AIDS. There is no cure for viral infections, but there are treatments available to help relieve symptoms and prevent further spread of the disease.
Fungi areorganisms that typically live in moist environments like soil or on plant leaves. Some types of fungi can cause infections in humans, especially if they enter through cuts or open wounds. Athletes foot and yeast infections are two common examples. Fungal infections are often treated with antifungal medications.

How Is Bladder Cancer Diagnosed
Frequently, a doctor will diagnose bladder cancer after an individual tells them about blood in their urine. When theres enough blood in the urine to see it with the naked eye, its called gross hematuria. If you have small traces of blood in your urine you cant see, its microhematuria. As mentioned previously, only a urine test can detect microscopic hematuria.
Procedures and tests your doctor may use to diagnose your bladder cancer include the following.
During cystoscopy, your doctor will insert a cystoscope through your urethra. This tool has a lens that allows them to see inside your bladder and urethra to examine their structures for signs of cancer.
2. Urine Cytology
The doctor analyzes a sample of your urine under a microscope, checking for cancer cells.
3. Genomic Urine Test
This is a lab test that measures several biomarker genes in your urine to accurately assess the probability that you have cancer.
During a cystoscopy procedure, your doctor might pass a specific tool into your bladder through the scope to biopsy for testing.
5. Imaging Tests
Imaging tests like retrograde pyelogram or computerized tomography allow your doctor to view and examine your urinary tract structures.

You Loaded Up On Vitamins
Weve all experienced this one: You take your daily multivitamin and a couple of hours later your urine looks and smells rather terrifying.
Dont be alarmed: Multiple vitaminsespecially vitamin B6can affect urine color and odor, says Dr. Dune. In fact, B vitamins are notorious for turning urine a neon yellow-green color.
Why Does My Urine Smell Rotten
Foods that convert to sulfur compounds in your body can make your urine smell rotten. This smell is commonly compared to rotten cabbage or rotten eggs and can come from eating asparagus, garlic, and onions. There are rare conditions that create a rotten smell, too.
Trimethylaminuria. In this condition, your body canât break down a compound called trimethylamine. This chemical on its own smells like rotten eggs, rotting fish, or garbage. As trimethylamine collects in your body, your sweat, breath, and urine will smell rotten or fishy.
Tyrosinemia. There are 3 types of tyrosinemia, which cause problems breaking down the amino acid tyrosine. Byproducts build up and cause breath, sweat, and urine to smell like boiled cabbage.

What Does A Urinalysis Look At
If your cat presents to your veterinarian with urinary signs, your veterinarian will first perform a urinalysis. The urinalysis can reveal so much important information about the urine when a UTI is suspected. Your veterinarian will look at the following:
- urine-specific gravity
Once these levels are measured, the urine specimen is placed into a centrifuge and spun down to allow cells and other debris to accumulate at the bottom of the sample tube. That debris can then be evaluated under magnification, and this examination can reveal the presence of red blood cells, white blood cells, bacteria, and crystals.
What is seen under the microscopes magnification can lead to the next steps of assessing the dogs urinary tract disease. For example, if there are crystals in the urine, your veterinarian may recommend radiographs or an ultrasound of the abdomen in order to look for bladder stones.
Sandalwood Scent May Tackle Bladder Cancer Tumors
Bladder cancer typically occurs in older people, those who have a family history of cancer, and those who work or have worked with harmful chemicals. A new study discovers that a certain olfactory receptor is often present in malign bladder tumors. This finding may lead to better therapies.
Researchers led by Drs. Hanns Hatt and Lea Weber, from Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany, have made a fascinating find.
They have discovered that there is an olfactory receptor in the human bladder, and it occurs more frequently in cancerous than healthy tissue.
The receptor is also found in greater quantities in the urine of those with bladder cancer.
This, the researchers explain, could make it a viable biomarker when it comes to detecting the presence of this type of cancer.
But the study the findings of which have been published in the journal Frontiers in Physiology has also revealed that this receptor is a promising therapeutic target for bladder cancer, which is diagnosed in around

Advanced Symptoms Of Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is considered advanced when the tumor has grown and penetrated the bladder lining and surrounding layers of tissue and muscle. At this stage, the cancer may have spread to other parts of the body . Symptoms of advanced bladder cancer include the following:
- Urination problems: Inability to urinate
- Pain in the lower back: Another indication the tumor has spread is pain, particularly in the area above your pubic bone or the flank area. Pain in your perineum might also occur if your bladder cancer has reached tissues nearby. Pain may only be on one side.
- Weight loss or loss of appetite: You lose weight without trying, or youve lost your appetite and arent as hungry as usual.
- Feeling weak or fatigued: You may feel lethargic and extremely tired a lot of the time.
- Bone pain: If your cancer has spread to the bone, it can cause bone pain or a bone fracture.
- Swollen feet: Bladder cancer that has spread to your lymph nodes, for instance, could cause your feet to swell.
If the bladder cancer has spread to another part of your body, you could develop symptoms specific to that particular area. For example:
Once again, these symptoms could be due to something other than bladder cancer, so be sure to have your doctor check them out.
Proteinuria: What Does Protein In The Urine Mean And How Is It Tested
Proteins serve many functions in the body, but when proteins escape into urine, it can be a sign of potential kidney problems.
Its normal to have a small amount of protein in your urine, and temporarily higher levels can be caused by exercise, dehydration, stress, fever, or cold temperatures.
If high levels of protein are detected multiple times, you may have kidney disease. People with diabetes and hypertension have a higher risk of developing kidney disease, so their urine may be analyzed regularly via urinalysis.
Protein in urine can also be a sign of preeclampsia in pregnant women.
If kidney disease is caused by hypertension or diabetes, treatment will involve getting these medical conditions controlled and monitored. Treatment may also include lifestyle changes and prescription medication, including angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers .

Fatigue Being Tired All Of The Time
Why this happens:
Healthy kidneys make a hormone called erythropoietin , or EPO, that tells your body to make oxygen-carrying red blood cells. As the kidneys fail, they make less EPO. With fewer red blood cells to carry oxygen, your muscles and brain tire very quickly. This is anemia, and it can be treated.

How Is A Kidney Infection Diagnosed
Your doctor will ask about your symptoms, do a physical exam, and likely run some diagnostic tests. Those include a urinalysis, to check your pee under a microscope for bacteria and white blood cells, which your body makes to fight infection, and a urine culture to help find out what kind of bacteria is causing the infection, the NIDDK says. Your doctor may even take a blood sample to check for bacteria or other organisms in your blood, the Mayo Clinic says.
Other tests that might come up include an ultrasound, a CT scan, or a form of X-ray called a voiding cystourethrogram, which involves injecting a contrast dye to take X-rays of your bladder when its full and while youre peeing, per the Mayo Clinic.

Or Youve Got Kidney Stones
Often caused by dehydration, kidney stones form when chemicals in your urine crystalize together. While small stones may pass without you even noticing, larger stones can lead to pain and a slew of other symptoms, including cloudy, foul-smelling, and even bloody urine, according to the National Kidney Foundation.
Since having kidney stones increases risk of developing kidney disease , its important to stay well hydrated and work with your doctor to make any lifestyle or dietary adjustments that can reduce risk.
If Your Pee Smells Like Sulfur
Did you just eat asparagus, perhaps?
“Foods will change the smell of urine,” Dr. Agarwal says. Asparagus is by far the most famous for doing this, and that’s because sulfur byproducts of the veggie are being eliminated in the urine.
Fun fact: Lots of people can’t smell “asparagus pee” because of certain genetic variants that make them unable to detect this odor. In one study published in âThe BMJâ in 2016, about 60 percent of people claimed they didn’t have smelly pee after eating asparagus.
Other foods that are known to change your urine odor include garlic, salmon, Brussels sprouts and curries, Dr. Agarwal says.
âFix it:â Not much you can do here, really â the smell will go away on its own.

Signs Of Bladder Cancer: What Women Should Know
Bladder cancer may not be on your radar even if youre vigilant about getting routine GYN care. After all, its far more common among men than women, and the majority of cases affect patients over age 65. However, dont let those stats keep you from learning to spot the warning signs.
While bladder cancer isnt one of the most common cancers in women, about 18,000 women are diagnosed with bladder cancer every year in the United States . The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network reports that women are more likely to be diagnosed with bladder cancer at an advanced stage because they may not be on the lookout for early signs.
Cystitis In Men And Older People
Men tend to get cystitis later in life. Where trouble with urine flow is a symptom, this may indicate that the underlying cause is a problem with their prostate gland.
Cystitis is common in older people, particularly if they are unwell. Bladder catheters and some urinary-tract operations may also increase the risk of cystitis.

When To Call Your Doctor
If you’re confident that the smell is not related to something you ate or a change in diet, call your doctor, who may want to evaluate you for an underlying cause, like a UTI or STD.
If you have additional symptoms, like burning, increased peeing frequency or a cloudy appearance to your urine, you should also be evaluated.
When To See Your Gp
It’s not necessary to see your GP about smelly urine unless you’re concerned. This may be, for example, if you have other symptoms too.
See your GP if:
