The Bladder in Chinese Medicine

What Is Uterus Prolapse And How Can It Be Treated Well?

A prolapsed uterus is when the uterus moves down from its usual position â this can take place when the tissues that usually support the uterus become strained and fragile. Prolapsed uterus is a common ailment that can affect a ladys physical and sexual activity and also her quality of life. The uterus, accompanied by other organs of the pelvis, is usually buttressed by sheets of pelvic floor muscles which are dangled like a hammock from the public bone to the tailbone from front to back and also backward and forward across the bottom of the pelvis. With a uterine prolapse, these muscles and also ligaments and other pelvic tissues, donât offer their usual support and the uterus might push down. The uterus can descend into the vagina and even sit close to the vaginal opening, sometimes bulging via it. The bladder and bowel can also obtrude into the vagina this is acknowledged as pelvic organ prolapse.

Acupuncture Treatment For Bladder Uterine Or Rectal Prolapse

Acupuncture Treatment for Bladder, Uterine or Rectal Prolapse

I was recently asked by one of my patients whether or not I thought acupuncture treatments would benefit their sister who was told she had a bladder prolapse. Since most of my patients seek help for painful conditions, it reminded me that many people are not yet aware that Chinese medicine is also very beneficial for other types of disorders.

Yes! Unless the condition has progressed to the point of requiring immediate surgical repair, acupuncture may help prevent organ prolapse conditions from deteriorating, if not completely rectify the problem.

In Chinese medicine theory, prolapses of internal organs are usually explained by a weakness of the Spleen energy. Another name for energy is qi . The normal direction of the Spleen qi is upwards. When that qi is weak, the body experiences a feeling of bearing down, fatigue, mental depression, diarrhea and the actual prolapse of internal organs. This aspect of qi deficiency is often referred to as qi sinking. And there are specific acupuncture points and herbs that have the effect of raising the qi.

For rectal prolapse, I add the Master Tung foot point Menjin which is on the Stomach meridian slightly proximal to ST43 and the traditional ST44 point. Ling Gu, another Master Tung point located proximal to LI4 is effective for rectal prolapse.

Sneezing Chronic Cough Reduce Its Frequency And Learn To Manage The Moment

Every time you cough, sneeze, or blow your nose, there is an increase in abdominal pressure that is transmitted directly to the structures of your pelvic floor.

When any of the pelvic organs are lowered, this hyper pressure caused by coughing or sneezing is harmful, as it favors its worsening.

If you suffer from allergies and sneeze or blow your nose frequently, you are a smoker or have a respiratory disease such as asthma or chronic bronchitis and this results in repeated coughs or sudden attacks of cough, you should consult your doctor to properly manage these conditions and avoid episodes harmful to your perineum.

But you can’t always avoid it, so when you feel the time to cough, sneeze, or blow your nose approaching, remember the second golden rule in this post to counteract hyper pressure … one, two, three: contract with effort!

Train Your Pelvic Floor

The two lines to follow to avoid the worsening of prolapse are, on the one hand, to improve the support capacity of the tissues of your pelvic floor and, on the other, to avoid all those practices that suppose an excess of pressure on them. As for the first factor, improving the support function that our pelvic floor performs on a daily basis, nothing like getting your perineal muscles in shape by training them.

Kegel exercises, hypopressive abdominal gymnastics, postural reeducation, core training … are some of the protagonists of the action plan that the pelvic floor physiotherapy may suggest the specialized professional you go to.

Dermatones And Acupuncture Meridians

prolapse

Anatomy has shown us that dermatones correlate to nerve pathways distribution which also correspond to where acupuncture meridian pathways travel. On these meridians are specific acupuncture points that then can treat herniation of the disc. They can treat the pain, numbness and weakness caused the prolapsed disc.

Many centuries ago, A Chinese physician called Hua Tuo discovered acupuncture points that run down teh spine that correspond today to the spinal nerve pathways and dermatones. This knowledge has led to a good example how modern science can be utilized with ancient knowledge to improve treatment outcomes. An MRI scan can show where the actual herniation is and then those corresponding Hua tuo points at that spinous process level.

The Pelvic Floor And Chinese Medicine

Herbal Healing : Herbal Bladder Cures

The Pelvic Floor Muscles provide support to the organs that lie on it, notably the bowel, bladder and uterus. In Chinese Medicine, the Spleen produces a lifting effect on the organs it is the force that makes sure that the internal organs are in their proper place. These muscles, through time, can prolapse. In Chinese Medicine, this correlates to weakened Spleen function. The Spleen can weaken through a variety of factors such as overwork, childbirth, emotional strain, diet. In the Chinese Medicine trade, we refer to this as spleen qi sinking. This can manifest as tiredness, weakness of the limbs, tendency to obesity, a heavy sensation in the abdomen, prolapses of organs such as stomach, uterus, anus or bladder. Those affected may suffer from incontinence – both urinary and faecal. Spleen Qi sinking can often lead to Kidney Qi sinking.

I recently had a client who had severe incontinence and said nothing had helped her and she had to wear a pad constantly. It was making her feel old , and caused her a severe amount of stress. She advised that pelvic floor exercises actually made the problem worse. I used Du20 with moxa and strengthening spleen and kidney points, and placed moxa cones on her abdomen. After 3 sessions, the incontinence reduced by 50%.

So by toning the organs that sit on the pelvic floor and treating the area locally, Chinese Medicine can have a very profound effect.

Chronic Bladder Problems Can Be Cured With Chinese Medicine

Many men and women suffer with chronic bladder ailments today. Often they have tried a number of approaches but only get temporary relief. Why is this? Much of the time it is because the problems are treated by addressing the symptoms only. When one also focuses on the root of the problem conditions such as cystitis, chronic bladder infections, chronic pain, frequent urination, prolapse, and incontinence can be cured or greatly helped by Chinese medicine.

Chinese and Western herbology, acupuncture, vitamin and mineral supplementation, proper diet, and stress mitigation techniques are very effective tools used in treating bladder problems. For example, I have personally seen great clinical results with recurring urinary tract infections . A typical client who has this issue will have used Western medicine for a long time prior to seeing me. This often means that they have had harsh medicines like antibiotics and antifungals which in addition to the bladder complaint create other problems. This person needs an approach that eliminates any pathogens, strengthens the immunes system, repairs damaged tissue, restores balance and ultimately corrects the underlying cause. The natural therapies mentioned above are the perfect tools for dealing with this problem. They will affect a cure while supporting the body and have very limited if any, side effects.
