How To Treat Bladder Spasms/urinary Frequency From A Ureteral Stent:

How Does AZO Bladder Control® Work?

In addition to the above recommendations of a bladder friendly diet and reasonable fluid intake, you can consider:

Anticholinergics

There are too many medications in this category to list them all. Some of the more common ones include oxybutynin , tolterodine and hyoscyamine. They are anti-spasm medications that tell the bladder to calm the heck down.

Although this should improve bladder pain and frequency, they also cause side effects. Dry mouth and constipation are most common. Make sure you take a stool softener like Miralax because constipation is the last thing you need with a stent in place .

Alpha blockers

Tamsulosin is commonly used before kidney stone surgery to help increase the likelihood of spontaneous stone passage. Obviously if you have a ureteral stent, this was not successful. However, Tamsulosin may still provide a purpose.

In a review of several trials, Tamsulosin was shown to improve both âurinary and body pain scores.â when a ureteral stent is in place. In other words, Tamsulosin can improve urinary frequency in addition to bladder/kidney pain.

Alpha blockers are well tolerated but can cause a stuffy nose and lightheadedness.

Treat constipation

Infrequent or hard bowel movements can worsen the urinary symptoms associated with a ureteral stent. Why is this? Thereâs only so much room in the human pelvis. When stool is sitting in the rectum it can compress the bladder. Which in turn worsens bladder pain and frequency.

Pyridium Makes Urine Orange

Phenazopyridine is essentially a dye that soothes the lining of the urinary tract. In most people, it darkens the color of the urine to an orange or red color. This is not harmful and is expected with the use of phenazopyridine. However, it may cause permanent stains on underwear. People who use soft contact lenses should avoid using them while on treatment with this drug as it can stain them permanently.

What Are Ureteral Stents

Bladder Blended Vitamin & Mineral Supplements Control Go ...

A ureteral stent is a thin, long tube that is placed inside your urinary tract. They are usually plastic although longer term metallic stents also exist. A ureteral stent has two curls at each end to hold it in place. The stent runs from the kidney, down the entire length of the ureter, and into your bladder.

Ureteral stents are typically placed for 2 reasons:

  • Relieve a blockage of the kidney/ureter from a stone, cancer or scar tissue.
  • As a preventative measure after a scope procedure of the ureter .
  • With a ureteral stent in place, urine is able to flow from the kidney both through and around the stent which acts as a bypass around the obstruction. This keeps your kidney healthy because a blocked kidney is a sad kidney. The reason a kidney stone hurts so bad is that the kidney is blocked, and the plumbing system is distended. A stent solves this problem.

But, ureteral stents hurt as well. So . . .

    Don’t Sabotage Your Recovery

Don’t give in and reach for the foods that are hurting you. I really sabotaged myself for a while because I would not give up that one cup of coffee in the morning. Once I got past that, I started to get better. Don’t undermine your recovery with that one glass of wine or cup of coffee, the way I did. Just stop. If all goes well, this will be a temporary situation. You can go back to enjoying those things later, but for now, you have to get this situation under control.

Instead of your regular acidic indulgences, milk or vanilla ice cream can be pleasant and very soothing. Make sure you get a brand of ice cream that does not contain a lot of chemicals.

How To Treat Burning With Urination From A Ureteral Stent:

    Phenazopyridine

This little miracle drug should be your go-to pain reliever if it feels like the pee tube is on fire. Most commonly referred to as Pyridium or AZO, this urinary analgesic soothes the urethra if you have a UTI or a trauma from a recent urology surgery. Pyridium for stent relief is a great, safe option.

Although there are limits on how long you can take phenazopyridine , anecdotally patients have reported to me taking this on a daily basis for a week plus. We obviously cannot recommend therapy length beyond these recommendations, but side effects are rare. The main side effect is it will turn your urine BRIGHT ORANGE and will stain everything.

AZO is available OTC in doses up to 99.5 mg. Prescription grade versions are available at 100-200 mg up to twice daily. You can do the math and get relief without requiring a prescription.

    Avoid bladder irritants

Donât stoke the fire in your urethra with food and beverages that will make things worse. Caffeine, sugar, acid and alcohol are the worst offenders. Stick with water.

    Avoid overhydration

Too much of a good thing can cause you trouble in many areas of life. Drinking too much water will just cause you to pee more which is not the most fun activity with a ureteral stent in place. 60-80 oz of water should be a reasonable amount for most patients after a ureteral stent.

Of course once that stent is out, water intake should increase to 80-100 oz to prevent future kidney stones.

Well, yes, I would. The product does exactly what it says it will do: reduce the urgency to go to the bathroom. I just wish I could have continued to take it to see if after using it for a while, I would be able to sleep through the night without having to get up to go to the bathroom. You might have a different and better experience with it than I did. You can buy AZO Bladder Control at pretty much any store or pharmacy, and of course, also at

    Does Buscopan Help Bladder Spasms

    How to prevent bladder spasms

  • Mind your fluid intake. Too much fluids may make you urinate more frequently.
  • Avoid drinking excess caffeine and alcohol. These beverages increase your need to urinate, leading to more urgency and frequency.
  • Move your body.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Subsequently, question is, how long do bladder spasms last after surgery? But with a bladder spasm, the bladder contracts suddenly and involuntarily, and that urge to go is immediate, overwhelming, and sometimes painful. Bladder spasms are common after surgery, and can be an unhappy consequence of having a catheter, which I would for the three weeks after surgery.

Beside above, do muscle relaxers help bladder spasms?

There are two types of prescription medicines used to treat overactive bladder: Muscle relaxants: These help control muscle spasms that cause your bladder to squeeze at the wrong time. The medicine can be prescribed as a pill or patch. Antidepressants: These help relax the bladder, as well.

    Is buscopan a muscle relaxant?

Buscopan is a powerful smooth muscle relaxant, effective when given by mouth or by injection. In the recommended dosages, Buscopan relieves smooth muscle spasm rapidly. Undesirable ‘atropine-like’ side effects such as blurred vision, palpitation or dry mouth are rare.

How To Relieve Uti Pain At Night

If youve ever had a urinary tract infection , you know they can cause incredible pain and discomfort.

And theyre extremely common: More than half of all women will experience a UTI in their lifetime, and though less common, men can get them as well.

UTIs occur when bacteria enters the urinary tract, infecting parts of the urinary system including the bladder, urethra, and kidney.

The symptoms of a UTI can result in disturbed, restless nights with burning sensations, frequent urges to urinate, and sometimes abdominal or flank pain and cramping.

While UTI treatment requires a course of prescription antibiotics, there are also home remedies and over-the-counter treatments that can help relieve pain so you can sleep.

In this article, Ill go over a few of these remedies, the common symptoms of UTIs, ways to prevent future infections, and discuss when its time to speak with a healthcare provider about your symptoms.

What Are The Symptoms Of Ic

AZO Bladder Control & Weight Management

If you have urinary frequency and urgency, urethral burning, and pelvic pain, you probably have cystitis, which is bladder inflammation. These are pretty common symtoms, but if they don’t go away and no other cause can be found for them, then there is a possibility that it may be interstitial cystitis.

Some people with IC experience UTI-like symptoms constantly while others experience it intermittently. IC can cause pain during intercourse and can be accompanied by other health issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and other pain-related disorders.

    Are Bladder Spasms Dangerous

Bladder spasms arent dangerous, but they can be uncomfortable, and may cause embarrassing leaks when youre unable to make it to the bathroom in time.

Those who experience regular bladder leaks may find themselves limiting the things they used to do, for fear of having an accident in public. This can lead to a reduced quality of life for many people, and may even lead to depression.

But Heres What I Did Notice

Dreams. I began having wild, wacky dreams. Not nightmares. Just intense dreams. Dreams which essentially were a re-run of what had been going on in my life that day. I had them night after night for the several weeks I took the product.

I also noticed that the intensity of my urge to go to the bathroom was not as strong as it usually is. And thats a good thing. But I still had to get up and go the bathroom during the night. For me, that is generally once. Which, I guess is not too bad. But, its still frustrating. I just want to sleep through the night, you know?

I thought perhaps the dreaming would eventually stop if I kept taking the product. But after a full month of taking it, they continued unabated. So, I stopped taking it and sure enough, the dreams stopped. So it is very evident to me that if I take this product, while it does lessen the intensity of the urgency for me to go to the bathroom, the incessant dreaming will keep me from being able to fall into a deep, restorative sleep.

    And I cant have that!

Azo Bladder Control: I Tried It And Heres What I Think About It

Can You Take AZO Safely While Breastfeeding?

    July 7, 2016 by Magnolia

At the beginning of this year I did a sponsored post on AZO Bladder Control. That post included a giveaway for 500 winners. I dont know if you were one of them or if youve personally tried the product, but because I have issues with urgency and stress incontinence, I thought I would personally give the product a try and see what I think about.

Before I tried the product I also did a quick Internet search to see what I could find out about it, reviews, etc. I did see one of those Warning! Warning! Warning! reviews where the writer was just short of hysterical. And please, I just cant take those types of reviews seriously. Call me jaded, okay? But just calm down and give me the information already.

    Anyway.

I wasnt dissuaded by the hysterics of prior reviews and retrieved one of the boxes of AZO Bladder Control out of the inventory I have in my office. I first read the supplement facts on the back of the box:

The AZO Bladder Control proprietary blend includes pumpkin seed and soy germ, two ingredients which seemed okay to me. Of course, the Other Ingredients include words I cant pronounce, and as such, I guess Im not supposed to take it according to all the health and wellness gurus. But, I did anyway.

I had none. Yea for me. Off to a good start.

Don’t Miss: Hard To Urinate When Bladder Full

    What Can I Do

Through research and trial and error, I found the things that worked for me. I now have been pain-free for over five years, and I am not taking any medications.

Many women find themselves in a situation like the one I have described at some point in their lives. Their GP or gynecologist may not be very knowledgeable about it. Trying to get information about urinary symptoms that are not caused by bacteria and getting the appropriate treatment can be very frustrating.
